ARDMORE, Okla. (KTEN) — Ardmore city officials are trying to get more funding for projects at the Downtown Executive Airport, on top of the millions of dollars worth of construction already in the works.

The city has submitted letters of interest to the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics to be included in the agency's 2026 fiscal year budget. Ardmore hopes to receive some funding for two projects at the Downtown Executive Airport:

  • Constructing a new terminal building
  • Adding perimeter fencing

Those projects are on top of adding more hangars and runway rehabilitation, which are already being worked on.

"The airport itself is quality of life, plus there are a lot of businesses that use it," said Assistant City Manager Kevin Norris. "The Noble Foundation uses it; we have several businessmen in town that use it. This is what the airport needs. This is what we need for the future."

The City of Ardmore also operates Ardmore Industrial Airpark, 18 miles northwest of downtown.

"Ardmore is one of only a few in the state that have two airports," said Downtown airport director Dan Luttrell. "Downtown Executive, it is the tourism component."

"Though it doesn't generate a lot of income for the city, there are a lot of people that travel via airway," Norris added. "We are also looking at the possibility of it being used by people coming into the new casino."
