(KTEN) — Oklahoma House Bill 3642 passed through the Senate on Wednesday. If signed into law it would ban child pornography manufactured through the use of Artificial Intelligence

"It's encouraging to see everybody come together on, on what I believe is a common sense morals and values bill."

Child pornography is already a felony in the state of Oklahoma, but this law would widen the umbrella to accommodate today's technology.

"we need to keep up with technology, we're just amending it to bring in the new types of technology that are happening to us now." Stated Oklahoma senator Jerry Alvord. Alvord was one of 42 senators that unanimously voted to pass the bill.

The law would prohibit the manufacturing of any digitally altered photos of anyone under the age of 18, with the intention of making them appear to be engaging in any sexually explicit conduct.

"As technology advances, those individuals who have deprived hearts and are filled with that type of behavior are going to exploit that technology." Stated Johnston County sheriff Gary Dodd.

Dodd is just one example of law enforcement officers who have noticed an increase in digital child related crimes. According to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, there were over 1500 cyber tips relating to A.I. child crimes in 2024, and over 10,000 in the past 18 months.

"This crime is growing, we have people within our society that want to try to normalize this behavior."

After passing in the Senate, the bill is on its way to governor Kevin Stitt's desk to be signed into law.
