FANNIN COUNTY, Texas (KTEN) — Monday night's storm left parts of Fannin County under water. Emergency staff in the county are urging motorists to be cautious about driving into high water.

The overnight rainfall left roads, golf courses and boat docks swamped.

Fannin County Emergency Management coordinator Troy Hudson said a school bus and cars stalled due to high water.

"We have been out and observed a few vehicles that has driven off into high water," he said. "Of course, they self-rescued themselves... there was no 911, no water rescues."

Roads in the northeast part of the county were the most impacted, receiving up to 6 inches of rain.

"If a lot of water is crossing the road — especially around a culvert — it can undermine that area where the road looks like it's sturdy, looks like it's there with water on top of it, and then they drive across it — the road basically collapsed," Hudson explained.

Storms in Fannin County resulted in flooded streets on April 9, 2024.

Should additional rain fall on Tuesday evening, residents should anticipate road closures for the Wednesday morning commute.

"We've had some conversations with the National Weather Service in Fort Worth;  it sees that we may be expecting some more additional rain that may cause some more problems on our roads," Hudson said.
