LOVE COUNTY, Okla. -- Oklahoma State Troopers said a Marietta man was in critical condition Thursday morning after failing to yield to an Amtrak train.

Daniel Woolery, 68, was crossing the tracks at Peery Road about six miles north of Marietta when the bed of his pickup truck was struck by the Heartland Flyer passenger train, which was traveling its daily route from Oklahoma City to Dallas.

The impact sent the truck airborne. Woolery was thrown from the vehicle. Troopers said he wasn't wearing a seat belt.

Woolery was airlifted to a Denton, Texas, hospital in critical condition.

The bed of his truck was completely separated from the cab in the crash.

Because Peery Road is a private crossing, there is no gate or warning lights, but there is a stop sign alerting motorists.

The Amtrak train was not seriously damaged and the rail line was shut down for about an hour.
