SULPHUR, Okla. -- Hundreds on families drove through the Crossway Church parking lot in Sulphur Tuesday afternoon for No Hunger Holidays.

"This already has a large presence in Murray County," said Chickasaw Nation Department of Health spokeswoman Marty Wafford. "We have people lining up, ready to be served. We have many volunteers here today."

The Chickasaw Nation and Feed the Children have been partners for years, and this is the fourth No Hunger Holiday event. It gives low-income families all they could ask for.

"We're feeding 800 families today, and each family will receive a 25-pound box of food, a 15-pound box of essentials," event manager Shanna Carnes said.

The food isn't just for Chickasaw Nation members, but the Tribe does set the criteria to receive a package.

"They partner with different groups in this community, and it is low-income families, people that need help, people in need," Carnes said.

Close to 100 volunteers helped serve these families for about four hours on Tuesday, but No Hunger Holidays didn't end after one afternoon in Sulphur; it's a theme that carries on throughout the holiday season.

"No Hunger Holidays is our theme; our focus from November through December. We do this nationwide," Carnes said.

Similar events were scheduled in Oklahoma City, Norman, Moore, Tulsa, Calumet and Lawton.
