Still no cause determined for downtown Denison fire

Posted: Updated:

DENISON, Texas -- Nearly a month after that downtown Denison fire, there is still no official cause listed.

Firefighters say flames sparked in the rear portion of the building in the 300 block of Main Street. An insurance company's forensic lab is studying evidence.

Even though the building was destroyed in the October 9 fire, Emergency Manager Morgan Metcalf said he expects the cause will be pinpointed.

"We're just waiting on the professionals to give us that information, and as soon as they do, we will gladly share with everyone," he said. "I realize that the whole community is so reeling from this and looking to see closure on this major event."

The city is making plans to begin cleaning up what's left within the next month.
