DENISON, Texas -- Anglers brought their big catch to Grandpappy Point Marina on Monday for the 12th annual Texoma Striper Challenge.

The 28 contestants vied to reel in the most fish by weight.

"Outstanding day with friends, great fellowship, and anything we can do to help give back to an amazing organization that does so much for the community, and we love to be a part of it," said Denison car dealer Eric Bryant, one of the sponsors.

The fishing tournament benefits the Boys & Girls Club of Denison, which provides young people with a safe and affordable place to learn and grow.

"It goes to help our funds for scholarships for those that need, our programs, our staff, and everything we do at our Boys & Girls Club to help our kids in the community," said Ron Nixon, the club's executive director.

Those crucial scholarships support 84 percent of the kids at the Denison club. Monday's tournament, with a live auction and raffle, brought in $23,000 for the youngsters.

"Without this event, our kids wouldn't be able to have the things we give them," Nixon said.

The club is always growing and looking for ways to move forward, and Bryant recognizes its significance.

"I know how important it is to have an organization you can go to that's there for kids to go to... that's there for kids to help them work on their education, studies, to get more recreation, help expose them to things that they might not otherwise be exposed," he said.

Eric Bryant and his team won the challenge with their five fish tipping the scale at 37 pounds.
