LUELLA, Texas -- Cedar Creek Bridge in Luella will be torn down and replaced starting on Monday.

Last October, a part of Cedar Road was washed away by major flooding near the span, located about six miles southeast of Sherman.

The Texas Department of Transportation had been looking into replacing the bridge for several years, but the flooding pushed the repair up on its schedule.

"This is obviously a very wooded area, the creeks that come down here," said Grayson County Commissioner Jeff Whitmire. "You have flooding that eats away the banks, causes erosion, and then trees fall down in the creek and float."

The road will be completely blocked to traffic until construction is complete. Whitmire said alternate routes will be strained.

They're definitely not designed for the kind of traffic they're going to be getting," he said. "They're narrow and hilly. So, we especially wanna ask the public who has to use those routes to be careful, slow down, and be aware of those blind hills."

The work is scheduled to be finished sometime in December, weather permitting.
