SHERMAN, Texas -- We all remember those back-to-school days, whether from your own childhood or your kids'.

Those memories usually involve a little excitement, perhaps a bit of anxiety.

The Sherman Independent School District kicked off its 2019-2020 year on Wednesday morning. Everyone said they were ready to get back into the swing of things.

There were fresh haircuts, new backpacks, and Sory Elementary student Owen Fairbanks even rocked his new kicks.

"I got them yesterday and they're very new," he said. "My mom said I have to wear them on the first day of school."

We observed no tears on momentous morning; everyone had a pep in their step and a big smile on their face.

And parents like Randy Mitchell were glad to get their students back into the routine, too.

"Knowing where he's at, and the wonderful people that are going to take care of him, I slept just fine. I am excited for him," Mitchell said.

Day One is now under the belt as students and faculty members look ahead to the rest of the school year.
