MILL CREEK, Okla. -- Mill Creek School students saw a big difference when they returned to classes last week: A total cafeteria makeover.

"We had a lot of damage to our walls... termites and stuff... so it was a need for sure," Superintendent Lorinda Chancellor said.

Volunteers spent the summer renovating the dining hall at the Home of the Bullfrogs. It was a bit of a time crunch to get everything done before classes resumed.

"We finished our wall repair, finished replacing all our ceiling tiles, got new blinds, and our floor waxed and repaired," Chancellor said.

Why volunteers? The district didn't have enough money in the budget to fund the repairs. But local residents answered the call for help.

Now cafeteria workers are enjoying a cleaner and more functional work environment, and students are taking more pride in their school.
