SHERMAN, Texas -- Backpacks are a back-to-school necessity, but not all families have the resources to purchase them.

So 4 His Glory Ministries offered a helpful hand with its annual backpack giveaway on Sunday.

"I hope they know -- first and foremost -- that they're loved. That's a big thing for me," said ministry spokeswoman Angela Austin. "We're just trying to help them because it's a tough world out there."

Gracie Fuller, a fifth grader who was volunteering at the event that also provided free haircuts, eye exams and school supplies, understands the importance of this for families and the community.

"Just getting a backpack means everything to some people, because they aren't fortunate enough to have one," she said.

Seeing the happiness from those receiving new back-to-school gear is what touches those involved the most.

"My favorite part today would be the part where you see a kid smile when they get a new backpack, and they're running and they're showing their siblings and everything," said Luis Soois. "That's my favorite part... being able to make them smile."

The ministry has held the backpack giveaway for 10 years. The community support helps them to keep going.

"We're greatly thankful for the people that have donated to us, because without the community donations we wouldn't be able to provide these items for people," Austin said.

Gracie Fuller added the main reason to do all of this: "Everybody deserves to be happy," she said.

The 4 His Glory ministry says it focuses on providing clothing and food to families in need.
