SHERMAN, Texas -- With the first day of school now less less than two weeks away, Sherman hosted its 13th annual new teacher luncheon on Friday.

Eighty-seven teachers will make their debut with the Sherman Independent School District, one of the smallest numbers in recent years.

Administrators credit the stability to strong recruiting efforts.

"I honestly just looked all across the Metroplex, because I didn't really know where I wanted to go," said Kelsie Patterson, who will be teaching at Sherman High School. "Everyone here was just so nice and genuine and just so supportive of the schools, and so I just felt at home immediately."

Sherman ISD Superintendent Dr. David Hicks said the new group of educators brings 576 years of experience to the district.
