CENTER, Ok --- Pontotoc County Sheriff John Christian says authorities are investigating a shooting that happened early Friday morning at a marijuana growing area north of Center, Oklahoma.

Christian tells KTEN that Brian Doherty, the owner of the marijuana growing property, was shot three times and killed by Jimmy Northcutt Jr., who is currently being treated OU Medical Center after being shot in the back by Doherty.

Christian says Northcutt was flying a drone nearby the property Thursday afternoon, which is located west of Ada. According to Christian, Northcutt says he was in a prior relationship with the marijuana grower's ex-wife and was trying to aggravate her by flying the drone.

In a statement, Northcutt says he was confronted by Doherty and left the area and left the drone. He went back Thursday evening to retrieve the drone. According to Northcutt, Doherty then confronted him again and shot him one time in the back. Northcutt returned fire and shot Doherty three times., killing him.

Northcutt called 9-1-1 around 1 am Friday morning and was transported to Chickasaw Medical Center, then transported to OU Medical and in stable condition.

Christian says the facility consisted of a couple hundred plants. He also says the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics confirms that Doherty was registered with OMMA and was in the process of getting his registration through OBN to become a legal growing facility.

Christian called The Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation, who conducted the investigation and interviewed Northcutt.

The investigation is ongoing. Follow KTEN News for more details.
