DURANT, Okla. -- The City of Durant might be under new management sooner than later.

There's progress being made on a new hire for city manager post that will soon be vacated by Tim Rundel.

The City Council met Thursday in executive session and agreed to hire Oklahoma Municipal Management Services for an executive search. The search process starts in the next week or two and can take up to 16 weeks.

"The Council feels like by going with an executive firm, we not only do a state search, but a regional and national search for the best candidate out there," Rundel said.

OKMMS had the lowest bid for to supervise the city manager search at just under $20,000.

Earlier this month, Rundel said he planned to step down from his post at the end of the year.
