VAN ALSTYNE, Texas -- When it comes to protecting your children, anything helps.

Operation Kidsafe partnered with the Laurie Hutto-Hill insurance agency in Van Alstyne to launch a service that provides parents with a digital photo and fingerprints of their sons and daughters... just in case.

Families who attended the launch event Friday were able to work with the technology first-hand. The information provided by the Operation Kidsafe program aims to help law enforcement battle against time in case of an emergency where a child is in danger.

"When you have a tragedy happen, and you need that information, it’s important to have it," Van Alstyne police Chief Tim Barnes said. "So to have that information right there in time is valuable.”

The Operation Kidsafe program started 18 years ago, and has safeguarded more than one million kids.

Hutto-Hill said it's important to note that while this technology is primarily useful for children, it can also be used for those who have family members with dementia or Alzheimer’s.

Parents can take advantage of the free service any time at the Laurie Hutto-Hill Agency at 1274 West Van Alstyne Parkway.
