MADILL, Okla. -- Whether it's preparing for tornadoes or wildfires, the men and women in charge of keeping Marshall County safe came together for their quarterly local emergency planning committee meeting on Wednesday.

"It's a group of business people as well as first responders that come together in the community to plan for everything from major disasters to exercises and what we would do in those cases," explained Emergency Management Director Robert Chaney.

The group, consisting of police and fire departments, sheriff's deputies, emergency management and more, planned for a wildfire exercise later this summer.

"It's great to have people from all sectors help out just because they all have different points of views, and they might catch something that emergency response people are not thinking about," said emergency response coordinator Lorraine Acevedo.

They're not limiting themselves to the current roster. Prospective new members of the group can visit Marshall County Emergency Management at 102 North 4th Street in Madill.

"We need all the volunteers we can get, especially in the case of a major disaster,"  Chaney said. "It's always better to have people prepared versus an ad hoc-type incident."
