DENISON, Texas -- The Texas Department of Transportation says three out of four vehicles have an improperly installed car seat.

That's why TxDOT and Denison police hosted a child passenger seat safety check Thursday at Texoma Health Foundation Park.

"As parents, we want to do what's best for our kids," said TxDOT spokeswoman Monica Yates. "Sometimes we do make mistakes; sometimes we don't know all there is out there because of policies. Best practices are always changing. That's why it's always good to check if you're not certain."

TxDOT says one of the most common child safety seat errors is leaving the harness straps too loose.
