ARDMORE, Okla. -- The Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Ardmore is helping kids learn even more about their faith.

To do this, the church is sending a group of students to Baltimore, Maryland, for the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education.

"To teach them to build their character and morals up in the community, to know who Jesus Christ is, and how He can change their life around," explained Youth Pastor Leroy Williams Jr. "They can learn from His growth and His message."

Going to Baltimore isn't only a chance for these kids to learn more about their faith; it's a chance to see an entirely different part of the country.

"A lot of our youth haven't been outside Oklahoma or anything, so I think it would be a good thing for them to like travel the world and stuff," said student Victory Credle.

In order to get the youth group to the East Coast, the church needs the public's help to fund the journey. The church has held multiple fundraisers already, but with the trip just a couple of weeks away, they're hoping a few more events will help them reach their goal.

"We're still looking for donations," Williams said. "We're short a little bit, but we're still doing fundraisers. We have a fundraiser this Tuesday at Friendly Park. We also have a fundraiser Saturday here at the church."

This trip won't only help these kids learn; it gives them a chance to take that knowledge and make a difference when they return.

"Get educated to teach the things that they learned, the classes that they took up there and also bring it back to the community so other kids can grasp on to them," Williams said.

Any amount you can donate will go a long way for the church. The kids will head to Baltimore on June 16; they'll return on June 22.
