PAULS VALLEY, Okla. -- Six months after Pauls Valley Regional Medical Center closed its doors, a Chickasha-based company is looking for a way to take over that facility.

Southern Plains Medical Group has secured a lease on the building and now they need to solve a licensing issue.

Basically, they need to prove to the Oklahoma Health Care Authority  that a license for the hospital already exists. If they end up having to reapply, it will take longer to reopen the hospital and cost the group more money.

In an effort to speed up the process, Southern Plains is hoping residents will sign a petition to show regulators how badly they need a hospital in Pauls Valley.

"People still live in rural Oklahoma. People still need health care," SPMG CEO Len Lacefield said. "People don't want to drive to the city and spend most of their day to see a specialist."

Southern Plains is holding a town hall meeting next Tuesday, April 30, at Mimi's Restaurant in Pauls Valley for residents who want to read and sign the petition. The meeting starts at 6 p.m.
