ADA, Okla. -- A call from a concerned relative led Pontotoc County deputies to a man's body on Monday evening.

The sheriff's department said the relative hadn't heard from Jerry Taylor in several days, then went to his residence in the 14000 block of County Road 3585.

"They took some trash up to the road to be picked up that evening," Sheriff John Christian said. "When they came back by, they decided to stop back in and check on him. When they opened the door, they did find the victim inside the house."

Taylor was lying on the floor, unresponsive. First responders said the 62-year-old man appeared to be the victim of a homicide.

Pontotoc County Sheriff John Christian asked the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to handle the case.

"They're actually doing follow-ups and interviews on persons of interest and maybe anyone that might have some knowledge," Christian said.

The sheriff added that County Road 3585 is usually a quiet neighborhood, saying he believes this was an isolated incident and that there's no need for general concern.

"I'm sure we'll find that there's a reason behind what happened," Christian said.

The sheriff's office asked anyone with relevant information about what happened to Jerry Taylor to contact them.
