Proposed Grayson County charter school raises concern for superintendents

WHITEWRIGHT, Tex. -- A proposed charter school in Grayson County has superintendents from 28 school districts concerned.

In December 2018 the Texas Education Association received an application from the Frontier Education Foundation.

The foundation's application stated they wanted to start a charter school at the Kings Trail Cowboy church in Whitewright.

Later that month, a letter was sent to superintendents in Grayson, Fannin and Collin counties informing them the proposed charter school would overlap designated geographic boundaries in 28 school districts.

Now, Denison ISD Superintendent Dr. Henry Scott says he's afraid of the negative impact the proposed charter school could create for rural school districts.

"This school is in a very rural area and the impact on the smaller school districts could be financially devastating," said Denison ISD Superintendent Dr. Henry Scott

Scott says he encourages all of the school districts to file a statement of impact. Districts have until March 29,2019 to send them to The Texas Education Association.
