BRYAN COUNTY, Okla. -- What do you want to be when you grow up?

That was the question asked Tuesday by the Southern Workforce Board at the fifth annual Bryan County 8th Grade Career Day at Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

People from 16 different career fields gave nearly 600 8th graders the opportunity to explore potential jobs. The kids were divided into groups based on a career assessment test they had taken earlier in the school year.

"It's important to me to help them find an occupation that they will enjoy," said Jerry Arthur, president of Bushwackers Land Clearing Services.  "Part of my mantra throughout my teaching career was to find something you enjoy doing and figure out a way to make a living doing that."

After talking with the professionals, the young people said they had a clearer picture of their futures.

"It's helped me decide what I want to do a little bit more," said Jake Arthur. "Maybe  veterinary medicine and aviation."

"I want to do animation and acting and voice acting," Ashley Cardoza said.

"The fire department helped me figure out that I didn't want to be a cop or a firewoman... but then we went to the attorney, and they kind of helped me figure out more about it and the steps to get there," Britney Cooper said.  "It helped a lot, because I realized how hard it was going to be and how many years you had to go through to get to there."
