Texoma prepares for winter weather

Posted:

SHERMAN, Texas -- As that winter storm draws near, cities across Texoma are gearing up for the storm.

Right now it looks like Sherman will only be getting rain, but crews are still on standby all weekend long.

Some areas will see just rain while others can expect a rain/sleet mix, freezing rain, or even snow.  The city of Sherman is one place where rain is expected, but that can change. So, the city is getting prepared.

“Really what today is about for our street department is making sure the equipment is ready, fueled up, the sand trucks have sand in them. So it’s ready to go if things do worsen over the weekend and temperatures do start falling or we’re getting reports from our police departments as they’re out on the street that conditions are worsening that we are ready to go. We can have the guys mobilized very quickly and we can have those trucks out there,” said spokesperson for the city of Sherman Nate Strauch.

They said drivers should be prepared for anything if they head outside.

“You know it’s important that people be weather aware and if you are looking to go out this weekend, if you are looking to run errands around town just be aware of what the weather is doing and take the proper precautions as you’re out there on the road driving. That’s really all we’re asking of people,” Strauch said.

Our weather team will be tracking the storm all weekend long. You can stay up to date by watching KTEN, going to kten.com or using our KTEN weather app.
