SHERMAN, Texas -- In a special executive session Tuesday, the Sherman Economic Development Corporation appointed a new president.

Kent Sharp, the current chief executive officer of the Development Corporation of Abilene, was the lone finalist in the search to fill the vacant position.

The SEDCO Board voted unanimously Tuesday to appoint Sharp to the post.

Sharp, with 28 years of experience in economic development in Texas, will begin working as SEDCO's new president in January.

"Every organization has its own culture, its own personality," he said. "For me to be effective in Sherman, I've got to understand what that culture and that personality is from the board to the City Council, and more broadly, the business community in Sherman."

SEDCO's stated mission is to grow and diversify the economy of Sherman and the surrounding area by adding new jobs and investment by primary employers.
