DURANT, Okla. -- A list of 12,000 U.S. cities has been narrowed to 20 being considered for national exposure on a TV makeover show.

Durant is on that list.

If selected, the downtown district will get a complete makeover courtesy of Small Business Revolution, seen on Hulu.

The program, now headed into its fourth season, helps small businesses and towns reignite their spark with a $500,000 revitalization.

Stephanie Gardner, executive director of Durant Main Street, said it would be the opportunity of a lifetime for Durant.

"Our business is excited, our community is, and we are just excited to see where this goes," she said.

In this region, Durant was selected as a top 20 finalist along with Corsicana, Texas, Searcy, Arkansas, and Morgan City, Louisiana. Gardner said Durant's location and community made it a standout to producers of the program.

"Not only was our community pride that we are trying to build the many existing and new businesses downtown, but also we are Oklahoma, but we are so close to the Texas border we can pull customers and shoppers from both states," Gardner said.

To get to the finals, Durant has to make it to the top 10, which will be announced on December 11. After the show narrows those to five finalists, viewers will then vote for the winner.

"That's why we want to community involved now, so if we get to that point, they are ready to vote," Gardner said.

The winning city, to be announced at the end of February, gets a half-million dollar re-do along with a visit from home renovation stars Ty Pennington and Amanda Brinkman.

If Durant comes out on top, not only will Main Street get a facelift, but six downtown businesses will be selected for a complete makeover to both their building and brand.

"So much excitement! So many people pumped up for our little area," said Shanna Johnson, owner of Don't Blink Photography.

"Even if we don't win, its going to bring our community together to be talking positively about our community," Gardner added.

She said Durant boosters can help by posting positive things about Durant on social media -- like photos and video clips -- and by using the hashtag #MyDurant.
