OU band prepares for Red River Rivalry

Posted:

ARDMORE, Okla. -- Making their way down to the Cotton Bowl, the Pride of Oklahoma marching band decided to make a pit stop at Noble Stadium in Ardmore on Friday to make sure they're ready for the big game.

"We came down to Ardmore just to see everybody. It's a great way to get some interaction with the fans as we go down to the game this weekend," said Assistant band director Brian Wolfe.

Both the Texas and Oklahoma football teams aren't the only ones practicing for the Red River Showdown this weekend as the game means just as much to the band as it does for the players.

"Just to be able to watch and interact with both programs is a ton of fun. It's a really historic program here at OU and at Texas and, to put these two together, just creates a lot of fun for the students throughout the week,” said Wolfe.

With Ardmore schools out for the day, it was a perfect time to give students and fans a sneak peek at what the band will perform at halftime. Former pride member Chasity Webb said it's a great experience for the whole community.

"I think it's wonderful, not only for the pride, but also for everybody in the community. There's a bunch of kids in band here. It's a great thing and it brings back great memories too," said Webb.

Wolfe said it was perfect for the band members as well to get ready for the game.

"It’s just overwhelming. It's great to be able to have that experience for our students to perform for a crowd instead of just some empty stands so we had a great time today," said Wolfe.

As always you'll be able to find the Pride of Oklahoma showcasing their skills in front of a packed house at the Red River Rivalry halftime show.
