NTRA joins FAA control tower program

SHERMAN, Texas -- A change in management for a Grayson County Airport Control Tower.

The NTRA has joined the FAA control tower program. That federal designation meaning the FAA now is in charge of the control tower at North Texas Regional Airport.

The last element the airport had to add to be eligible for the program was a security fence. It was completed in early September. September 27 the county received a letter confirming that they had been approved.

The employees at the tower will now be paid by the FAA instead of the county. This will save the county $300,000 a year.

Grayson County officials said joining this program has been a long time coming.

Airport staffers said this will take the airport to a new level.

"A lot of work has gone into this, lots of hours behind the scenes, and I think it elevates the airport to be a top notch airport in the years to come,” said airport director Robert Torti.

This makes the tower one of only 254 towers with this distinction.
