PAULS VALLEY, Okla. -- Pauls Valley Regional Medical Center is still facing tough times. The hospital is taking donations from anyone who is willing in order to pay the employees.

The hospital needs $500,000 by the end of the week. On Monday, $234,000 of that amount came due.

The newly-installed hospital management team was able to meet that second goal, meaning that employees will get a paycheck.

Alliance Health Partners CEO Frank Avignone said employees want to do all they can to keep the hospital open.

"Short of a catastrophic concern about the hospital, I don't see any reason why it should close at this point,” he said.

Legal wrangling prevents Garvin County's only hospital from using the income it's currently generating. That's why Pauls Valley Regional is asking for donations.

Bob Barton has lived in Pauls Valley for more than 60 years. He said helping the community's hospital survive is a no-brainer.

"We need it for us elderly folks. We shouldn't have to go out of town, and we ought to back it just as much as we can," he said. "We would have to either drive to Arbuckle Memorial or Norman or Ardmore. We need the emergency room; we just have to have it.”

Even with community support pouring in, the hospital still has a tough task ahead and staffers know that.

The hospital's goal for the end of September is to raise $2 million, and the ultimate goal is $5 million. But Avignone said there is no shutdown date, adding this hospital will remain open as long as it has patients to care for.
