ADA, Okla. -- The Pontotoc County Animal Welfare Society has a problem: Too many strays and not enough forever homes.

Shelter staffers said they're currently on an intake hold and cannot accept any more animals until more can be adopted.

P.A.W.S. assistant manager Taylor Ivy said strays have been a growing problem in the area, and the shelter is asking for the public's help.

"Everyone needs to spay or neuter their dogs. That is a reason why we do get a bunch, a bunch of litters," she said. "People, their dogs have puppies and they have nowhere to turn."

Adoption fees at the P.A.W.S. shelter are $50 for dogs and $40 for cats.

The facility is located at 1200 Sandy Creek Drive in Ada. Call 580-332-5233 for more information.
