DURANT, Okla. -- The Choctaw Recycling Center is nearing a milestone: 20 million pounds of recycled material.

The Durant facility opened in 2010, and another location in Poteau opened to keep up with demand.

The 10 million pound plateau was reached in 2016. Recycling manager Jason Lilley expects to hit 20 million pounds of waste by the end of the year.

"It makes me feel good, you know, that we actually hand-do the recycling," he said. "It's hard because we cover so much territory."

In June, the Durant facility got a new conveyor sorting system and an auto-tie baler. Both help make the recycling process faster and more efficient.
