ADA, Okla. -- The Ada Regional Airport will soon will have more elbow room for planes and personnel.

The airport will open its new terminal this weekend. The $1.25 million facility will add to the 100 jobs the airport already supports.

"It's a really important economic driver and economic engine for Ada," said Ada Jobs Foundation president James Eldridge.

On average, 34 aircraft come through the airport ever day. The city hopes that the new terminal will stimulate traffic in the air and on the ground.

"This airport can connect to the rest of the city and the surrounding neighborhoods by offering a restaurant here at the airport, a food truck park," Eldridge said. "We're looking into the idea we can connect pedestrian, bike activity to the airport and surrounding neighborhoods."

He added that the new terminal will help inspire an interest in aviation for a new generation in Pontotoc County.

The grand opening of the terminal on North Broadway is set for this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
