PARIS, Texas -- It was a hard lesson learned for a suspect in Paris, Texas: Don't mess with the canine officer.

Ajalen Meontre Sanders was arrested for possession of marijuana on Wednesday, but not before police say he threw a backpack at Cupa the canine officer.

Chief Bob Hundley said Sanders also grabbed Cupa and slammed him into the side of a van.

The dog was unhurt; in fact, police said Sanders had to get on top of the van to get away from the pooch in pursuit.

That's when officers arrested him.

Sanders was charged with felony possession of marijuana, interference with a police service animal and evading arrest. Bond was set at $13,000.
