SHERMAN, Texas -- A Christmas musical brought the community together in more ways than one this weekend at Sherman's Kidd-Key Auditorium.

"It's just amazing that five different churches with five different agendas can come together for one common purpose," said Jonathan Coleman,  pastor of  First Baptist Church Howe.

"The Story of Christmas" was staged as a free event.

"The drama and the storyline is about someone who has forgotten about the Christmas spirit, and they've forgotten about what it means to be able to give the Christmas spirit away," Coleman said, adding that the musical represents what Christmas is all about.

"It's our hope for the community that we can offer a free concert as a gift to the community to start your Christmas season off with a message of love and hope and peace, and puts you in the Christmas spirit," he said.

And bringing people together is something Coleman says makes the holiday season a little brighter.

"It's so amazing that five churches are able to come together for one common goal and say we just want to celebrate Christmas with our community."

In addition to Coleman's church, First Baptist Church in Sherman, First Baptist Church in Dorchester, Fairview Baptist Church and Northpark Baptist Church participated in the event.
