Van Alstyne residents urged to boil water after main break

Posted:

VAN ALSTYNE, Texas -- Van Alstyne police sent out an alert late Tuesday afternoon about a "severe" water main break.

The city said the problem is in a residential neighborhood at the corner of Clement and Sherman streets just northeast of downtown.

Officials are asking residents to conserve water until the break can be fixed. Any water for human consumption should be boiled before use.

To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes.

In lieu of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

The city said children, seniors, and people with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria.

It was not immediately clear how long it will take Public Works employees to make repairs.
