Bryan County Reserve Deputy Recovering After Motorcycle Crash

DURANT, OK- A Bryan County reserve deputy is still in serious condition tonight after crashing his motorcycle Tuesday evening near FM 691 and Texoma Parkway in Denison. The crash has his fellow deputy brothers stunned.

Reserve Deputy Keith Cheek is still in the ICU at the Texoma Medical Center. As his road to recovery begins those he knows best are sticking with him. Keith Cheek has been a reserve deputy with the Bryan County Sheriff's Office for about fifteen years. To his coworkers, he's more like family.

"I've known Keith for nearly 24 years. He's been a vital part of this department as a reserve," said Bryan County Sheriff Kenneth Golden.

Sheriff Kenneth Golden says his relationship with cheek goes far beyond the badge.

"We would go and spend several days at a time helping with the rendezvous, ghost stories and things like that. He's a very good friend and an excellent officer," said Sheriff Golden.

Tuesday, Cheek crashed his motorcycle in a ditch on FM 691 in Denison. Troopers say Cheek wasn't able to slow down when a car turned in front of him. When word got out Cheek was injured, the Bryan County Sheriff was shocked.

"It hurts. He often calls me to see if I'm doing alright. If I want to go do something," said Sheriff Golden.

Business owners in town who know Cheek are even sending prayers for a speedy recovery.

"We're darn sure thinking about him and we want to help in any way we can and get him back going like he needs to be," said Greg Ogle.

And getting him back on patrol is exactly what the sheriff's office is planning on.

"I miss him and I'd like to see him right back up here and that's what I expect," said Sheriff Golden.

We're told right now during this time the family is asking for privacy. Doctors are keep Cheek sedated for a few more day.

Stay tuned to for updates on his condition.
