One Person Dead After Shooting in Grayson County

Posted:

GRAYSON COUNTY, TX -- One person is dead after Grayson County Deputies say they were shot in the head Monday afternoon.

Deputies say it happened at a home near Preston Point Peninsula near Lake Texoma, just outside of Pottsboro.

The quiet neighborhood on Cedar Oak Drive turned into a bustling scene of crime tapes and flashing lights, as Grayson County Deputies and Investigators responded to a shooting that left one person dead, and nearby residents in disbelief.

"Oh my goodness, it's terrible, so unlike this area," said long-time resident, Diana Greer.

"It’s unfortunate, I don't know what the circumstances are but I can fathom the justification one way or the other," said resident Jason Taylor.

Deputies say the person died of a single gunshot wound to the head at a home located off the 500 block of Cedar Oak Drive, just before 4 pm on Monday.

Neighbor, Diana Greer has lived in this area for more than 17 years; she says she came dashing home as soon as she heard what happened on the news.

"I was shocked, you know I told him (my husband) that I was going to come on home and find out what's going on in the neighborhood because it's not like this place," said Greer.

Jason Taylor says he moved to this neighborhood six years ago for the peace and quiet it offered, so he was surprised to hear about the shooting.

"This whole community is tightly wrapped up and aware, it's a neighborhood watch type like community," said Taylor.

The Grayson County Sheriff's Office says the homeowner was detained and questioned by authorities about the shooting, but no arrests were made at the time, and only the homeowner and the victim were involved.
