Ardmore police officer pleads no contest to poisoning dogs

ARDMORE, OK -- An Ardmore police officer accused of poisoning dogs in his neighborhood has pleaded no contest.

Sergeant Barry Antwine has been ordered to pay $792 in restitution and perform 50 hours of community service.

Antwine originally entered a plea of not guilty to the charge of poisoning a domestic animal. Prosecutors say he put what may have been anti-freeze in a bowl outside his house last spring.

Officers say at least six dogs died mysteriously about that time.

Antwine has been on paid administrative leave since last April.
