Durant hires former Southeastern head football coach as defensive coordinator

DURANT, OK -- Former Southeastern Oklahoma State head football coach Ray Richards has been hired to lead the Durant High School defense and secondary, DISD athletic director Tony Tubbs confirmed to KTEN.

Richards had a 42-52 record over nine seasons at Southeastern before stepping down after the 2013 season.

He'd lead the Savage Storm to three Lone Star Conference North Division championships during his first three seasons there.

He was also the defensive coordinator for Southeastern for ten years before becoming a head coach at Southwest Baptist. There he would be named the 2001 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association Coach of the Year.

Richards joins Randy Matthews' staff, who was the defensive coordinator for the Lions in 2014 before replacing Byron Cordell as the head coach.

Durant would go 1-9 last season.
