Tioga Girls Golf Team Heading to State

TIOGA, TX ---  Tioga High School wouldn't exist for about 50 years and then would reopen its doors in 2013. Now for the first time in the school's modern history an athletic team will compete in a state tournament.

The girls golf team will head to Austin tomorrow and compete in the UIL Class A tournament Wednesday and Thursday.

There are no seniors at THS, they also often times practice by putting in the classroom and chipping on the football field..

That makes it all the more remarkable for these ladies to achieve this.

"We have a lot to thank to our coach and also to the other girls. I mean, you really have to be dedicated and love to be successful to to be successful," Tioga junior golfer Kari Hughes said.

"You know in golf there's two rounds, you may shoot great one round and then shoot terrible the next but just I think as long as they're just consistent, if you're in Austin then you've got a chance at least," Tioga head golf coach Roy Mejia said.

Sophomore Daniel Baker has to practice his tennis in the gym.. Doesn't matter for him.. He's heading to the UIL state tennis tournament.

This is his first time to go for singles, last year he went for doubles. The state tennis tournament is in College Station on May 12.
