Two Texoma inmates cut through prison fence to escape

Posted:
STRINGTOWN, OK -- The manhunt continues for two convicts who escaped from a prison in Atoka County.

Oklahoma Department of Corrections director Robert Patton says surveillance video shows the two men running across the prison yard late Sunday night.

By the time officers began searching for the escapees Monday morning, the pair was likely long gone.

Patton says Lance Colbert, 40, and Dwayne Motsenbocker, 54, cut through a perimeter fence at about 11pm Sunday.

Patton says blurry surveillance video appears to show someone tossing wire cutters over the fence at about 9pm.

"It was somebody from the outside that threw something over the fence, someone from the streets," Patton said.

Colbert is serving a life sentence for two 1994 murder convictions in Tulsa county.

Motsenbocker is behind bars for armed robbery in Oklahoma County. Online records show Motsenbocker escaped from prison at least twice since 1982. He arrived at the Mack Alford Correctional Center in Stringtown in 2003.

"They're both dangerous people," Atoka County Sheriff Tony Head said.

Patton says the last time the men were seen in person was during an 8pm headcount on Sunday.
"They're counted every hour during hours of darkness," he said.

Despite hourly headcounts overnight, Patton says no one realized the two were missing until about 7am Monday.
The DOC says two correctional officers have resigned.

Monday, the Atoka County Sheriff's Office, the Oklahoma DOC and U.S. Marshals patrolled highways and searched woods near the medium-security prison.

"Chances are they're not in the area, but to stay safe we're going to stay in the area but we do believe they probably did get a ride out," Sheriff Head said.

The stepped up presence and wanted flyers posted at a nearby convenience store have some feeling unsettled.

"You usually think they're pretty secure behind the gate, then you see this," driver Don Dennis said.

The DOC says the men escaped in gray prison jumpsuits.

Colbert is described as a black male, 5'9", 260 lbs. with black hair, brown eyes.

Motsenbocker is as a white male, 6'1", 235 lbs. with gray hair and green eyes. He has tattoos of a cat, heart, dragon and the word "mom" on his right arm. He also has a skull with a cowboy hat on his right calf.

If you see either of them, you're asked to call 9-1-1 immediately.
