WHITESBORO, TX -- On Friday night Whitesboro freshman Jerryd Coleman dressed out for his first varsity basketball game.

“Whenever coach told us that Jerryd was going to be playing with us, we we're all kind of ecstatic. We've been talking, wanting him to play with us and he finally got to,” Whitesboro senior forward Wiley Walsh said.

Jerryd suffers from a disability called neuronal migration disorder, but he doesn't let that hold him back. In practice Jerryd frequently knocks down long-range shots and on Friday night against Callisburg, he got to show off his skills in front of the entire community for the first time.

"The Callisburg people, they were cheering my name and whitesboro was cheering my name. I felt really good and I shot that three pointer and I swooshed the ball,” Whitesboro freshman Jerryd Coleman said.

“It was crazy, whenever he made that final three pointer with five seconds left. I just couldn't hardly bear it, I had to run out on the court with about three seconds left, I just took off,” Walsh said.

That three pointer wasn't Jerryd's only basket, his first two points of the night came after a very special assist.

"I couldn't believe when Callisburg gave me the ball. And they let me shoot. I felt really good and they made me proud,” Jerryd said.

"Whenever they got a rebound and gave it back to Jerryd to put up another shot, that got to my heart. It was just awesome,” Walsh said.

Be sure to remember Jerryd Coleman's name because whether he's draining mid-court shots in practice or knocking down threes at the buzzer during a game; Jerryd's basketball career is far from over.

"I'm going to shoot the basket five times...and three pointers and I'm going to try my best,” Jerryd said.
