Ardmore Police Investigate Sudden Death of Arrestee

ARDMORE, OK-- The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is looking into the death of an Ardmore man that was in the custody of Ardmore police Friday evening.

Capt. Kevin Norris says officers responded to the 1100 block of Holiday Drive around 7 P.M. to a disturbance call.

The OSBI says 39-year-old Rondre Hornbeak assaulted his sister when she and her husband went to check on him at his apartment.

Officers then escorted Hornbeak to a police cruiser--who walked to the vehicle willingly-- to be transported to the Carter County Jail.

Norris said: "The subject was then transported from the 1100 block of Holiday Drive to the Carter County Detention Center. Upon arrival at the Carter County Detention Center, he was found to be unresponsive. The Carter County Sheriff's Department jailers immediately began CPR."

Hornbeak was rushed to Mercy Hospital and was pronounced dead a few minutes after 8 o'clock.

Norris says police chief Ken Grace immediately contacted the OSBI.

The bureau's spokeswoman Jessica Brown says they are awaiting the results of an autopsy from the medical examiner's office to determine the cause of death.
