Denison School Dating To 1922 Holds Closing Ceremony

DENISON, TX -- After nearly a century serving Texoma youngsters, one Denison school will soon be closing its doors for good.

Tonight, Golden Rule Elementary school held a "closing ceremony" they called a "Lifetime of Memories."

Parents and students packed into the school gym, which will soon be turned over to the Boys and Girls Club.

One teacher says she's retiring along with the school where she's spent so many years.

"We're celebrating the closing of the most wonderful school. I've been here 42 years and I have loved every minute of it," says first grade teacher Deborah Nelson. "Just have a lot of memories of wonderful children and parents and I just cannot, I won't ever forget so many people who have supported us and helped us through these years."

The last day for students is on June 6, but teachers will have some extra work days after that.  The school first opened in 1922.
