Tom Bean softball fresh off an upset, ready for another in Area Round

TOM BEAN, TX --  The Tom Bean Lady Tom Cats are playing the role of the underdog in these playoffs.
Their bi-district opponent was a No. 1 seed and the defending state champions.

That wouldn't faze coach Lance Cherry's club. They'd oust the powerhouse Pilot Point Lady Bearcats.

It's a tribute to their program's recent success, which includes a regional final appearance just two springs ago.

"It makes it even more memorable because our seniors in 2012, it was just a great way to go out and right now I think this is a perfect way to go out whether we win or not, it's a great way to go out," senior first baseman Caroline Henderson said.

"We know what to expect and what teams we're going to be facing, you know, we've faced Brock before so we kind of know they have a lot of talent, so I think it prepares us very well," senior center fielder Alex Hendry added.

"We have a strong tradition here and we've been to the playoffs a lot of times. But last year we missed it and we kind of felt that hunger to get back there and our pitcher came in gave us a strong chance to do that and we played great defense behind her. So getting back to it is really exciting for us. We don't want to be watching at this time of year, we want to be playing," coach Cherry concluded.

They'll head to TWU for game one Friday night at 7 .
