DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern wrapped its sweep of the Great American Conference schedule by placing Alberto Blesa and Nathan Nelmes on the league's All-Conference team, with Nelmes also winning Newcomer of the Year honors while head coach Shawn Hamil was named the GAC Coach of the Year.
The Savage Storm swept the league's schedule this season, topping Ouachita Baptist and Harding 6-3 in consecutive days and completing the run with a 5-4 win over East Central, with all wins coming on the road.
Nelmes, a senior from Perth, Australia, earned his Newcomer of the Year award after 10 wins on the year in doubles play, eight of which were in dual matches, including a sweep of GAC foes.
He also piled up 10 wins in singles play, all in dual matches, including a 2-1 mark against conference competition, playing primarily at the number two position. In addition, he has won his last five singles matches.
Blesa, a freshman from Madrid, Spain, has amassed eight singles wins this year playing at the number one position exclusively. In doubles play he has added 13 more victories, playing primarily at the number two doubles spot with Tiago Ferreira. The duo posted a 2-1 mark against GAC opponents.
Hamil picks up the GAC Coach of the Year honors after leading the Storm to a regular season conference title, the team's first in the three-year old conference, and amassing an 11-6 record on the spring, including taking five of the last six matches of the season.
