ATOKA, OK -- The Atoka Wampus Cats will have a new lead man in Northwest Classen's Lloyd Smith, according to their athletic director.
Smith replaces interim coach Jimmy Wyrick, who would take over just days before fall practice when Joe Jones unexpectedly resigned.
Wyrick says he will remain with Atoka ISD and plans to be a part of his alma-mater's football staff again next year.
Smith has a history of turning programs around, most recently leading the Knights to their best two seasons since 1980.
He'll take over an 0-10 squad that will drop from Class 3A to Class 2A in the fall.
AHS A.D. Russ Harrison says Smith will be in town next week to meet with the school.
