Nautilus Sport and Fitness acquires Ultimate Family Fitness Center in Sherman

SHERMAN -- A Texoma-based business is expanding.

For customers, checking into ultimate family fitness isn't any different. Infact, the only way you'd know the business has changed hands is from the signabove the front door.

"I didn't even notice it," said gym member James Carson."I was just trying to get my workout in and go home."

On Monday, Nautilus Sport and Fitness Centers announced theacquisition of Ultimate Family Fitness on the southeast corner of US Highways75 and 82 in Sherman.

"Basically you've had two fitness centers duking it out in Sherman,"said co-owner Shawn Teamann.

From now on, Ultimate customers will have access to 11 Nautiluslocations in the area, including four others in Sherman.

For Nautilus members, the move means access to the 37,000 square foot facility.Teamann says the acquisition was finalized on March 4 but that the deal has beenin the works for the past two and a half years.

"It's just finally now come together," Teamann said.

Owners said they're still working out the details, but that theyare looking to consolidate certain locations.

"Obviously we don't need five locations in Sherman,"co--owner Teresa Hall said.

Plans to consolidate include shutting down Nautilus on Texoma Parkway.

"We'll be consolidating our members from our Parkway locationwhich we opened in 1991," Hall said. "We will be consolidating ourlocations into our West locations and our new, it'll be Nautilus FamilyFitness."

Owners said the Nautilus Lady location, also on Texoma Parkway, willbe relocated next door to Nautilus West on FM1417. Despite the consolidation, Teamannsaid he doesn't expect to have to cut any employees.

"There's going to be a certain level of membership now and sowe're going to need a lot of staff," Teamann said.

Customers say they're proud the Texoma-based business is taking astep up as long it doesn't weigh down their wallet.

"If they merge, that's cool with me as long as they keep therates the same," said Carson.

Owners say they do plan on keeping prices aboutthe same.

UltimateFamily Fitness owners are staying on as minority partners.
