DURANT, OK ---- The Southeastern Savage Storm hosted their media day today for football and volleyball.
The football team was up first, head coach Ray Richards and his Savage Storm have had to move some people around this off season after losing both their offensive and defensive captains to suspension. But that doesn't mean they aren't ready for week one against Southern Arkansas.
"Right now all our concentration is going into September 5th and getting that ball rolling. And causing a snowball effect," Senior wide receiver, Keelen Green said.
"I'm sure a lot of people, a lot of teams out there, are counting us out because they did see us lose our starting quarterback and our starting safety. Which I totally agree, I'd probably be doing the same thing if I was on that team. But they should probably know that, that's the wrong decision," Senior linebacker, Logan Russell said.
The Savage Storm will look to prove their doubters wrong when they take the field for their season opener on September 5th against Southern Arkansas.
The Southeastern volleyball team also took to the podium to speak with the media. They finished last season 5-28 and are picked to finish eighth in the Great American Conference this season.
The Savage Storm is returning six players with starting experience and only lost one regular starter. Head coach Jenn King says she doesn't pay much attention to preseason rankings and she wants her team to follow in the footsteps of one of southeastern's most recent successful programs.
"Softball and Coach Fabian set a good example for us last year in the spring, with how well they did. So the girls' ultimate goal is to be winning the last match of the season. And be the first Great American volleyball team that gets an automatic qualifier to the NCAA tournament this year," Head coach, Jenn King said. "So we talk a lot about what we want to do come November. So what everyone perceives as our ranking in August really isn't something we spend a lot of time on. Were just trying to grow and get better every rep, every practice that we have."
The Storm will open the 2013 season on September 6 against Pittsburgh State in the Pittsburgh State Classic.
