Carter County Pedestrian Killed by Car

Posted:

CARTER COUNTY, OK-- A carter county woman is dead after authorities said she was hit by a car while walking alongside a highway.

OHP officials said it happened yesterday around 5:30 p.m.

Investigators said 54-year-old Carol Coker was walking northbound on the shoulder of highway 76 in Ratliff City when she was struck by a car.

She later died from her injuries. Troopers said the driver of the vehicle 55-year-old Charles Jackson was not injured.

Authorities say they're still investigating and believe alcohol may have played a factor.

"In the course of the investigation on scene, we saw things that led us to believe there may have been a level of intoxication  and we had blood drawn that is going to be sent to OBSI lab," said OHP Trooper Ken Duncan.

Duncan said they want to remind people to walk on safe roadways designated for pedestrians.

That was delaying treatment times by at least an hour and a half. So ninety minutes extra time where the brain was starved of oxygen leads to poorer outcomes."...More >>
