New Rules for Boaters May Come Soon in Oklahoma

ARDMORE, OK--  New legislation could require boaters to get more training before you hit the water.

State Representative Pat Ownbey has filed new legislation that he believes would increase the safety on lakes and rivers in Oklahoma.

Ownbey's bill would require individuals born after 1992 to take boating education courses before going out in the water of Oklahoma.

Boaters we talked to out at Murray Lake think the bill is a good idea.

Currently Oklahoma requires individuals who are 12 to 16 years of age to take boater education courses before handling a watercraft.
